What's new in Vegvísir

Every update, newest first — the same notes that come with each release.

October 2026

Version 1.4.23

⭐ A support key — for those who want to say thank you.

  • Vegvísir stays free, with no ads and no tracking. If you want to help keep it that way, Settings now has a one-time support key for the price of a coffee. It unlocks nothing — it just says thank you.
  • Restore purchases brings the key back on a new phone.
Version 1.4.22

🏁 Share your season, keep your rides.

  • Share the season as a picture: rides, kilometres, hours, longest ride, top speed, best month and kilometres per month, ready for the chat or the feed.
  • Back up your ride history to a file, and bring it back on a new phone — rides already there are kept, nothing is overwritten.
  • Small fixes now reach you between store releases, from the studio's own server. No account, no tracking, as always.
Version 1.4.21

🏁 Share your ride, see your season.

  • Share a saved ride as a picture: the route on the map with distance, time and speeds, ready for the chat or the feed.
  • The season summed up in your ride history: rides, kilometres, hours, longest ride, top speed, best month — and how this year compares with the last.
  • Your location arrives at once: the places tabs open on your last known position instead of waiting up to 15 seconds for a fresh one.
Version 1.4.20

🗺️ Track gaps, told straight.

  • A ride that stood still — a train at the platform, a ferry crossing — was reported as a gap in the track. Not any more: only ground actually skipped counts, and a short gap at speed that swallowed a kilometre now counts too. Rides already saved keep their numbers.
  • The map opens with the route in the middle, and the thin lines between map tiles are gone.
  • A place without a name is shown by its type, in your language.

September 2026

Version 1.4.19

🛣️ Your saved ride follows the road.

  • On long rides the saved track cut the bends: too few of the points where the road turns were kept. Now the bends stay, in the GPX file and on the map. Rides already saved stay as they are. Thanks to the rider who sent his files.
  • Swipe the app away mid-ride and the ride carries on. A crash that could stop the recording in the background is fixed.
  • Clubs & Tracks: a track with no name is shown by its type.
Version 1.4.18

🏛️ Museums and viewpoints keep their place in Explore.

  • The Explore list shows the 30 nearest sights. In a town centre, sculptures and plaques used to fill every seat, so a museum a few kilometres out never made the list — the Motorcycle Museum in Akureyri, as a rider pointed out. Museums, viewpoints and attractions now keep their seats, and artworks and memorials fill what is left.
Version 1.4.17

🔎 Search that keeps working, and maps that know the name.

  • When the map server is busy or refuses a request, the app now tries again and switches source by itself. Before, a bad moment could show "no results" even though the places were there.
  • Open in maps now hands over the place name, so your maps app shows "Rjukan Hytteby Kro" on the pin instead of a pair of coordinates.
Version 1.4.16

🗺️ Maps now come back after you lose coverage.

  • If the signal drops and the map goes black, the app now says so and offers Try Again — and the map reloads by itself when you switch back to the app. Before, it stayed black until the app was restarted.
  • The ride map in the Trip Logger now reaches the edges of its card — no more dark bars.
  • The date above the full-screen trip map now reads the same as on the ride card.
Version 1.4.15

🗺️ Two fixes to the new map controls.

  • Dragging a zoomed map now moves the map instead of scrolling the page.
  • Dragging the map down no longer starts a new search by mistake — use the search button when you want fresh results.
Version 1.4.14

🗺️ The maps zoom now.

  • Pinch to zoom and drag to pan — on every map, ride routes included.
  • New + / − and "Show all" buttons, big enough for gloves.
  • Zoom in and places that used to sit on top of each other separate.
  • Maps fill the whole card — no more black bars on tablets or in landscape.
  • Distances now say they are measured in a straight line.

August 2026

Version 1.4.13

🔎 Searches got faster — and more honest.

  • Results now appear as soon as the first answers arrive; the search keeps refining in the background.
  • When the map service is slow, searches stop cleanly after ~30 seconds instead of hanging — and show your last results with their age.
  • Vegvísir now remembers which search distance works where you are.
  • Cached results are kept for a day, and their age is shown in minutes, hours or days.
Version 1.4.12

🔧 The Garage now finds what's really out there.

  • MC workshops no longer vanish from Services in areas with many shops — the rare finds are always kept.
  • Clubs & tracks: no more empty results in road-dense areas, and one track is one entry instead of many.
  • Parking now also finds dedicated motorcycle parking.
  • Nearest means nearest again in dense cities — on the SOS screen too.
  • Thanks to the rider whose three sharp reports drove this release.
Version 1.4.11

🔧 Trip log: rides now survive interruptions intact.

  • If the phone killed the app during a pause, the recovered ride could show wrong distances and stray fragments. Saved rides now match what you actually rode.
  • Inaccurate GPS fixes from the background are filtered out of saved routes.
  • Fuel-type tags no longer overflow the place info card.
  • Thanks to the rider who tested for two days straight and reported both.
Version 1.4.10

🗺️ The full-screen trip map now truly fills the screen.

  • Yesterday’s update made the map bigger — this one finishes the job: the map now reaches every edge of the screen, whatever shape your ride is. No more dark bars.
  • Pinch-to-zoom is still on the list for a future update.
  • Thanks to the riders keeping us honest.
Version 1.4.9

🗺️ The full-screen trip map now fills the screen.

  • Opening a saved ride’s map in full screen showed a small map in the middle of a dark screen. It now uses the whole display and shows noticeably more detail.
  • Pinch-to-zoom is on the list for a future update.
  • Thanks to the rider who reported it.
Version 1.4.8

🚑 The right emergency number in Norway.

  • The SOS button dialled 112 in Norway — but for a crash with injuries the right number is 113 (ambulance). The big button now dials 113 in Norway, with all three services labelled: 113 Ambulance, 112 Police, 110 Fire.
  • Abroad nothing changes — the app follows the country you are actually in.
  • Thanks to the rider who reported it.
Version 1.4.7

🔧 More reliable search for nearby places.

  • Searches for food stops, fuel stations, sights and services could sometimes come back empty — one of the two map data servers had gone silent. It has been removed, and the app now retries when a server stumbles.
  • Thanks to the rider in Greece who reported it.
Version 1.4.6

🌍 Language polish across the app.

  • Emergency instructions, weather terms and dozens of other texts reviewed and corrected in Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish.
  • Clearer, more consistent wording on the trip screen.
  • A few small fixes in the English texts too.
Version 1.4.5

📍 Distances you can trust.

  • Nearby places are measured from where you are now — not from where you last searched. No more '300 m' to somewhere you left behind an hour ago.
  • A saved ride now tells you if part of its distance was guessed across a gap in the tracking.
  • Starting a ride warns you if background location is off, instead of quietly recording less than the whole trip.

July 2026

Version 1.4.4

🚀 Top speed is real now.

  • Saved rides missed every speed measured while the screen was off — a fast ride could save with a walking-pace max. Fixed: the whole ride counts now.
  • Places with no name in OpenStreetMap no longer show up as 'POI'.
Version 1.4.3

📏 Ride distances are accurate again.

  • Some saved rides were longer than the ride you actually took, with average speed inflated to match. Fixed.
  • The screen you knew as Rider HQ is now called Vegvísir.
  • The privacy text under About now describes exactly where your coordinates go.
  • Wording corrections throughout, in all five languages.
  • Searches now look much farther afield where places are sparse, and a failed search says so instead of showing an empty list.
Version 1.4.2

🧹 Smaller, and quicker to open.

Nothing changed in how the app finds your position, records a ride, or handles your data.

  • Removed a component the app never used. The download is smaller and there is less to do every time the app starts.
  • Wording fixes in Danish and Icelandic.
Version 1.4.1

🔧 Location is working again.

  • Fixes a bug that stopped the app finding your position — Rider HQ, nearby searches, trip logging and SOS were all affected. If the app could not locate you, this update fixes it.
  • Recorded rides now stay entirely on your phone. Route maps are drawn from your own GPS points — nothing about a trip is sent anywhere.
  • Fewer third-party servers see your searches.
  • The header tagline now speaks your language.
Version 1.4.0

🧭 Where Am I is now Vegvísir — named after the Icelandic wayfinding stave. New name, new gold compass icon, same app: nothing to reinstall, and all your rides, garage and settings stay exactly where they were.

No ads, no tracking — you will not lose your way.

  • New Vegvísir icon and splash screen
  • Small text fixes across languages
Version 1.3.0

🏍️ New in 1.3.0:

  • A fresh Nordic Aurora look — cleaner and darker, with brighter accents on every screen
  • NEW MC Season & Inspection: winterize + spring-prep checklists, a per-country inspection tracker that reminds you before you're due, and multi-bike support
  • Inspection rules verified for Sweden, Norway, Denmark & Iceland
